Antique toys still capture the imagination and interest of toy lovers and collectors worldwide. It is a great feeling when you discover scarce antique toys and can be pleasantly surprised at the price. Antique toy collecting is a wonderful hobby which can bring profit as well as pleasure. The collecting of antique toys is a particularly popular area of antique collecting due to the increasing value and feelings of nostalgia they can invoke. Antique toys may be considered to be those made around WWII or earlier but at least fifty or more years ago.

A Boy & His Toy: 1940
DewCon posted a photo:
An old photo I purchased at an antique store in La Crosse, Wisconsin. On the back of the photo was written the boy’s name, age (3) and date (December 1940) which was rare as I hardly ever find old photos with information on them in antique stores.

Bears and Dolls IMG_8173

A chair full of dolls and bears! Most of this crew has been rehomed -- I still have the two cloth dolls in the front left, the two teddies closest to the front, and the Ruth doll in the pretty blue dress on the front right.

Part of a small collection of celluloid dolls and toys. Apparently the "indian in canoe" toy is quite rare! Unfortunately his stringing is loose, as is common with these fragile little trinkets.

badhesterprynne posted a photo:
A small collection of vintage/antique toys, mostly celluloid. These were probably carnival prizes from the 1920s. I like the little silver-haired flapper kewpie dolls. They have holes punched into their bodies where there originally would have been "skirts" made of coloured feathers. Sadly, these celluloid toys are seldom in great condition, because the plastic was so thin and prone to denting/cracking. Still a fun little collection, though.

Ayres extra carved rocking horse 'd' type
oakleaf25 posted a photo:
Medium [45.5''] tall Ayres extra carved horse-this one has cast brackets, and a no 6 on the forehead, and is of unknown date. An expert on Rocking horses says this is an earlier model than others of this type, due to the cast as opposed to pressed brackets, and colour of the timber. One of these horses has a stencil with a patent for 1880, but one must be very wary nowadays of stencils, as rocking horses are appearing on the market with ''faked'' stencils .

These planters were huge and would look amazing in the back garden or in front next to the entry way.

I spied lots of enamel ware but since my four suitcases are already mostly filled, I had to refrain from much buying (much) more.

A new trend I've noticed is these large glass jars used for displaying a single tall branch. Industrial lighting is also still a favorite.
